Palominas Food Pantry

As Superintendent Copeland says, “If our kids are coming to school hungry, we’re already behind the curve in teaching them. If a student can only think about how hungry he is, he won’t be able to think about much else.”

With that in mind, we launched the Palominas Food Pantry. Learn how we’re doing everything we can to make sure our community supplies basic needs to our children. Our goal is for every student to come to school happy and ready to learn.

Restoring Hope, Empowering People, Building Community

The Palominas School District partnered with the Sierra Vista Dream Center to create the Palominas Food Pantry in the hopes of providing every needy family in our district with enough food to last over the weekend.

Program History

The Palominas Food Pantry is the brainchild of our director of Exceptional Student Services, Mrs. Beth Ross, and the Palominas School Exceptional Student Services teacher, Mrs. Margaret Rejtmar. Parents from across the district received an open invitation to participate in the program, through which they would receive a box of non-perishable food each Friday afternoon available for pickup at their school site.

Mrs. Rejtmar is instrumental in the planning and distribution of the food donated by the Sierra Vista Dream Center. Together with a wonderful group of students and staff, they process, unpack, sort, repack, and distribute food for 30 district families every week.

Last Thanksgiving, we opened our doors to families in need over the holiday weekend. In a joint effort with the Sierra Vista Dream Center, Fort Huachuca ISEC, and Amerigas, we distributed 24 boxes of new/gently used clothing, winter coats, 200 boxes of food, and 45 turkeys. We’re happy to be a part of such a caring community!
